Remembering Lucy Fowlkes Breed (1944-2017), founding trustee New Hampshire Children’s Trust
"In 1992, as a mother of a 2-month-old and having recently moved to New Hampshire from Kentucky, I discovered the New Parents Support Group (which Lucy founded) at The Children’s Place and Parent Education Center, a family resource center in Concord. Lucy’s nurturing presence along with the lifelong friends I found at The Children’s Place saved my life when I was a young parent. Later I had the privilege of working with her at the NH Children’s Trust. Her dedication and hard work were contagious! She was a true champion for children and families!"

New Hampshire Children’s Trust and the family support community around New Hampshire are saddened to hear of the death of Lucy Fowlkes Breed. Devoting her life to children and their families, Lucy dedicated 14 years as board member with eight of those years as our board chair. Upon her retirement in 2007, New Hampshire Children's Trust set up the Lucy Fowlkes Breed Legacy Fund and created the Lucy Fowlkes Breed Family Service Volunteer Award in her honor. Every two years, celebrating Lucy’s legacy, a New Hampshire family service volunteer is selected. Since 2010, recipients from around New Hampshire have been honored.
