FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 14th, 2026

An official State of New Hampshire proclamation, signed by Governor Kelly A. Ayotte and stamped with the state seal, declaring September 14 through 20, 2026 as Diaper Need Awareness Week in recognition of New Hampshire Children's Trust and its work distributing diapers and wipes to families statewide.

CONCORD, N.H. — Governor Kelly A. Ayotte has signed a proclamation recognizing Diaper Need Awareness Week in New Hampshire, an observance led nationally by the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) from September 14-20, 2026. The proclamation highlights the work of New Hampshire Children's Trust (NHCT), the state's chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, in meeting a basic but often overlooked need for families across the Granite State.

Through its Economic and Concrete Supports Program, NHCT has distributed more than 429,941 diapers and 8,039 packages of baby wipes to over 40 organizations, who collectively serve over 15,460 New Hampshire families statewide, working through a network of community-based child and family serving organizations that reach nearly every municipality in the state.

“Prior to hooking up with the NHCT my inventory of diapers was pretty slim. Generally, I didn’t have every size diaper that a family might need.” Barbara Meighan from the Goffstown Network Food Pantry states. “So we would ‘go big’ and hope for the best! To be able to offer every size diaper to a young, struggling family with multiple little bottoms to cover is such a bonus to me!”

The proclamation notes that diaper need, the condition of not having a reliable supply of clean diapers, affects roughly one in two American families with young children. Without enough diapers, babies face higher risk of infection and skin irritation, and parents can lose access to childcare programs that require a daily supply as a condition of enrollment, making it harder to hold down a job or attend school.

“Diapers are not a luxury—they are a basic necessity for babies and young children, and access to them should never stand between a family and their child’s health, comfort, and well-being,” said Christina Lachance, M.Ed., President of New Hampshire Children’s Trust. “This proclamation calls attention to an issue that too many families face and reminds us that we all have a role to play in making sure families have what they need to thrive. When local communities, businesses, and nonprofits come together to address diaper need, we are doing more than providing diapers—we are strengthening families, supporting parents, and creating healthier futures for New Hampshire’s children.”

Diaper Need Awareness Week is a national initiative of the National Diaper Bank Network, observed each September to mobilize diaper drives, donations, and public awareness. This year's national observance runs September 14-20, 2026. New Hampshire residents and organizations are encouraged to join the effort by hosting a diaper drive, volunteering with a local partnering agency, or making a donation to New Hampshire Children’s Trust to support our Economic and Concrete Supports Program

NHCT will bring Diaper Need Awareness Week directly to families this year by joining the Goffstown Network Food Pantry's weekly distribution on Saturday, September 19th at 9:30 a.m., during the pantry's regular distribution hours. NHCT's own, Carroll Berg, will join Goffstown Network Food Pantry workers and volunteers to hand out diapers and wipes to families in need and read the Governor's proclamation aloud, bringing the statewide recognition to life through the everyday work of a local community partner.
