At the New Hampshire Children’s Trust, we are proud to celebrate young leaders who are making a positive difference in their communities. Recently, Carroll our Communications Manager had the opportunity to speak with New Hampshire’s Kid Governor, Liv, about her passion for helping kids make healthy choices and avoid the dangers of smoking, vaping, and drugs.
Why This Work Matters to Liv
When asked what inspired her to focus on prevention and education, Liv shared that she wants kids to understand that substances are not a healthy way to deal with stress.
“Smoking, vaping, and drugs are not a good thing. Even if it seems like they are, it’s not a good way to get stress off. You need to know when to say no and how to protect yourself.”
She explained that cigarettes and other substances can have immediate and long-term effects on the body.
“They can ruin your lungs and your brain. Some cigarettes contain over 7,000 toxic chemicals. It’s just not good at all.”
Liv hopes that by sharing this information, more kids will feel empowered to make choices that protect their health.
The Importance of Healthy Choices
For Liv, learning to make healthy choices is about more than just avoiding harmful substances, it’s about building a strong future.
“So kids can have a healthier and longer life and try to make an impact in their community. If they want to do important things and help others, they need to take care of themselves.”
She also encourages kids to think about how their choices affect their goals, finances, and well-being.
“You don’t want to waste money or ruin your lungs and brain. You want to give yourself the best chance to succeed.”
Advice for Young Leaders
When asked what advice she would give to other kids who want to be leaders at their school, Liv didn’t hesitate:
“Do it. It’s worth it. Take a risk. Join clubs. Get involved. If you don’t get in, just try again. Don’t give up. Persevere.”
Her message is clear: leadership starts with courage, effort, and persistence.
How Adults Can Support Youth
Liv also shared how important adults are in helping kids feel confident and supported.
“Encourage them and tell them they can do it. Give them opportunities—like joining a club, playing a sport, or helping out with something.”
She believes that when adults create spaces for kids to participate and grow, young people are more likely to speak up and make a difference.
A Message for Kids Across New Hampshire
As Kid Governor, Liv hopes her work will help children learn important life skills.

“I want them to learn how and when to say no, why they should say no, and how to understand risks. Smoking, vaping, and drugs can ruin your life and damage your brain development.”
Her goal is to help kids feel informed, confident, and prepared to protect their futures.
Looking Ahead
We couldn’t resist asking Liv if she plans to run for Governor someday. Her response?
“Not until I’m older and can actually do it.”
We’ll be watching—she already has our vote!
Celebrating Youth Voices
Liv’s leadership reminds us that young people have powerful voices and meaningful ideas. When we listen, encourage, and support them, we help build healthier families, stronger communities, and brighter futures.
We are grateful for leaders like Liv who inspire their peers to make positive choices and believe in themselves. Together, we can continue empowering New Hampshire’s youth to lead with confidence, courage, and care.
