May Happenings

Child Abuse Prevention Month has come to an end, but there's still plenty of work to do.

April Comes to a Close

At New Hampshire Children's Trust, April is our busiest month.

In 1983, President Reagan proclaimed April to be National Child Abuse Prevention Month. In observance, many of our big events are held during April:

  • Our Strengthening Families Summit falls on the first or second Monday of April (the 2020 summit will be on April 21, so save the date!).

  • We partner with the NH Fiddle Ensemble who does three benefit concerts for us in Concord, Exeter, and Kittery on various weekends throughout the month.

  • The Kappa Delta Sorority at UNH hosts an annual dinner and auction to fundraise for both New Hampshire Children's Trust and Prevent Child Abuse America (while this year's auction fell at the end of March, it has historically been in April).

  • On the first Friday in April, individuals and organizations across the US band together to make a visible commitment to preventing child abuse by wearing blue on Wear Blue Day.

Wear Blue Day was on Friday, April 5th this year. We all dressed up for the occasion!

At the end of the month, it's safe to say that we're exhausted! But all that hard work during April and the months leading up to it are more than worth it. Spreading awareness of our mission to end child abuse in New Hampshire is so important, and to be able to partner with other local and national organizations doing similar work is truly uplifting. Without our partners, donors, and the many strengthening families professionals in the state, none of this would be possible.

Now that April has come to a close (and we've taken a nap or two!), we're ready to move on to May!
